Welcome to the Institute of Geography and Earth Sciences (IGES)

IGES is one of the oldest and most respected, yet vibrant and innovative Geography departments in the UK. As part of Aberystwyth University in the heart of mid Wales, we offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, with our undergraduate students being Britain's most satisfied Geography and Earth Sciences students (National Student Satisfaction Survey 2008).

In the Times Good University Guide 2010, the department ranked 8th in the country for Geography and Environmental Science, building upon the excellent 2008 RAE results where the department ranked 12th in the UK with 20% of the research within the department classified as "world leading" and 65% as either "world-leading" or "internationally excellent".
